ya gotta party on fremont! get a $7 daquiry at la bayou. hit the clubs at luxor and mgm. club ra and studio54. check out the venetian, the new sirens show at TI,the microbrew pub at monte carlo and the forum shops at caesars. plus the sportsbook there. mirage rocks but TI is my favorite hang. the palms is for celebs but the only celeb ive seen there was the biggest bust in nfl history ryan leaf. i gave him crap about how hated he is in SD and he just didnt care. he got what he wanted and he loves his life. what a waste of talent.

This may sound crazy to some but....

I sat just opposite in the blackjack pit from Ryan Leaf one night at the MGM for several hours. Until around 2 AM.

He was drinking and gambling his ass off.

This does not sound so far fetched so far... does it?

Problem was this was on a Saturday night when he was still starting for the Chargers.

He had a home game the NEXT DAY and was getting half drunk and playing BJ till after 2 AM at the MGM!

What a class act he was!

And as far as wasted talent, I don't think he even qualifies. When there is absolutely NO BRAIN activity talent is meaningless!

NFL players are prohibited from being in Nevada during the season. I dont think it was Ryan Leaf who you saw.

cryin ryan was famous for making vegas runs. he was so bad it didnt matter how late he was out. the storys here of his partying are legendary. the best story is ryan was ignoring reporters by being on his cell in the locker room. one reporter asked aloud how to get leafs attention. rodney harrison said in a voice loud enough for leaf to hear WHY DONT YOU CALL 1-800 JERK-OFF. lmfao. god i miss rodney. before leaf left junior seau clocked the prick at practice. laid him out and beat the hell out of him. wish i had seen it.

guys..staying at venetian since folks in my party wanted the best. Personally I dont care cause I'm never in my room. Let me know who will be out there and I'll look you guys up.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far. We are making this an annual trip during the SB. Half dozen friends....no spouses....sounds like trouble is a brewing.....

Hmmm, Sin City...one of my all time Favorite Places. Heck, on a bad idea and the whim of a couple of my college buddies I moved there in Oct of 99 where I was a manager at Hooters for the bulk of my 3 year Vegas stint.

Things to do in Vegas during Super Bowl week.

-Go Downtown and Play low limit table games one night and get pummelled drunk (best idea is to leave the ATM card and the bulk of your bankroll in the hotel safe)

-If you are a serious Blackjack player at all and ever got frustarated by repetitive "mistakes" by other players at the table it is a great catharsis (there's my 50 cent vocab word for the day) to go play "stupid" blackjack at a table with one of your buddies with a $100 bankroll each. Make every "BAD" play you can possible make...split 10's multiple times, double down on 5 or 12 or even blackjack. Stay with A2, whatever, anything goes. Pretend you don't know any better while you laugh it up with your buddy and listen to the other players lecture you. This can be incorporated with first suggestion about going downtown and getting pummelled drunk at low limit games!

-Mirage Buffet is one of my favorite buffets in town. Samba Grill is also great at the Mirage (get the Rodizio all you can eat experience). There is also great eats at Mandalay Bay depending on your price range.

-One of my favorite "clubs" is the Brew Pub at Monte Carlo, better mix of music, easier to talk to people and more "down to earth" people. For a true club experience Studio 54 might be more your speed or Rumjungle at Mandalay.

-Stopping by the Hard Rock is almost a must. There is plenty of eye candy all over that joint and the center bar is a cool place to hang. I had virtually zero luck ever winning a buck on any tables at the Hard Rock and not for a lack of trying so it is not my favorite place to gamble. Club Paradise is just a 45 second walk ac**** the ave. from Hard Rock too.

-Imperial Palace Sportsbook is a must Super Bowl week for any prop player. They have them all and they will let you parlay 2 together (the only place I know of that will do this - of course only with "unrelated" props and occasionally the manager's discretion with what's related is questionable LOL) There are always some gems if you do the research!!!

-The Baccarat Bar at the Mirage and the Island Bar at Mandalay are the best places to meet a woman who will be happy to escort you to your room. (prices vary on talent level and are subject to increase during large weekends like super bowl but $300 should do the trick, so to speak).

-Being more of a "bar" person than a "club" person I have always enjoyed Voodoo Lounge on top of the Rio - great view! Try a "What the witch doctor ordered" for a little over 20 bucks. I believe they still recommend that that drink be shared by 2 people!

-Get to Sportsbook early on gameday if you plan to watch the game there. You will be much happier if you have a comfortable seat for viewing! I like to watch games at Bally's Sportsbook, though they don't normally give you much line value (on any sport for that matter).

-Keep your Super Bowl betting bankroll separate from your "play" bankroll, it sucks to not have enough action on the big game.

-I stayed at the Palms the week it opened and knew it was pretty cool then, but it seems to be getting even more hip now so it is worth checking out.

-If you like Poker at all the Bellagio is the place to go. The legends like Doyle Brunson can often be found in the high stakes area with a over a million on the table.

Hope you have a good time!

almly sez (and then proceeds to later rip into a guy for no reason)...
quote:
NFL players are prohibited from being in Nevada during the season. I dont think it was Ryan Leaf who you saw.

1.) Please tell me where it says that NFL players are prohibited from being in Las Vegas during the season. Is this a team by team rule? Perhaps an NFL rule that apparently is NEVER EVER mentioned?

2.) How would such a rule apply to say, Randall Cunningham during his playing days? Is he banned from going home during the season?

3.) If this "phantom" broad NFL rule existed, how would it apply if someone's father lived in Las Vegas and was ill? Would that player be allowed to visit his ill father or would the father have to drive to Hoover Dam in order to meet his son who happens to play in the NFL?

4.) Would this "phantom" rule apply to Reno? What about a little town like Mesquite just a mere hour's drive from Sin City?

5.) Would the player be in violation of said rule if they had a connecting flight through Las Vegas?

6.) What if there was a charity golf tournament on the player's bye week in Las Vegas, would they be allowed to play?

7.) What if the player went to UNLV? They have a football program, heck, Vegas even legalized gambling on their games a couple years back.

Soooo, as you can see, Almly I would love to hear where you got your information and see if you calling another poster a 'dumb---' was justified or whether the term would be more applicable to yourself.

Glad to know this as the wife and I are headed there on Sunday for six days. Should have paid more attention when I was picking vacation but oh well.

Watched the Travel Channel during Vegas week and learned of some of the sites mentioned here. This time we are staying downtown even though my host from the Riv. called. We are guarneteed to see the Freemont Experience.
